About JM Consulting and Appraisals

Property appraisal experience backed by more than two decades in residential and commercial claims.

Mike Grantland, Owner

Mike Grantland leads JM Consulting and Appraisals with more than two decades of property claims experience. His background spans independent adjusting, appraisal, large-loss investigation, catastrophe response, field supervision, file review, and the coordination of technical experts.

Mike has evaluated residential and commercial losses ranging from routine property damage to complex, multimillion-dollar assignments. His experience includes extensive mold losses and large commercial properties, including condominium and homeowners associations, high-rise buildings, and a wide range of commercial occupancies across the country. That breadth of work supports a practical understanding of construction, repair scope, estimating, documentation, and the issues that often separate competing loss evaluations.

Appraisal and estimating experience

Mike’s appraisal work dates to 2006 and includes both residential and commercial assignments. He brings an adjuster’s understanding of the complete claim file to the appraisal process while keeping the evaluation focused on the amount of loss.

His experience extends across all major property perils, including fire, wind, hail, hurricane, flood, water, earthquake, and other causes of loss. He has coordinated with structural and civil engineers, roofing professionals, contractors, cause-and-origin specialists, and other experts when an assignment requires added technical support.

Capacity beyond a single appraiser

Mike remains directly involved in the company’s work and is supported by additional appraisal resources operating under the JM name. This structure allows JM to manage individual matters and larger assignment volumes while maintaining consistent communication, documentation, and file oversight.

Independent appointments

JM accepts appraisal appointments from policyholders and insurance carriers. Every assignment is approached through the property evidence, repair scope, pricing, supporting documentation, and facts of the loss, regardless of the appointing party. JM does not act as a public adjuster, negotiate coverage, or advocate for a predetermined outcome.

Multi-state experience and licensing

Mike’s adjuster licensing includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. JM’s current primary service area is the greater Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Before entering the property claims industry, Mike served eight years in the United States Marine Corps in electronic communications and as a weapons instructor.
